The Daily Telegraph - Telegraph Travel

Spring and Autumn in The Dordogne are best for families or groups of friends travelling without children. Spring brings warmth, bags of fresh market produce and beautiful flowers. Or plump for September or October instead when crowds and searing heat mellow, and the grape harvest begins. For food lovers it is a time of tranquil relaxation in many of the Dordogne's wonderful restaurants that are not as busy as they are in summer. Accommodation and flight costs are much lower and the pace of life in the area returns to normal.

This year our guests will be able to enjoy a fully catered picnic on the banks of The Dordogne. We will prepare, set up and clear away a superb picnic in a private setting on the banks of the river - all you need to do is turn up! Bookings essential!

We are very lucky to be in an area that has an abundance of truly fantastic markets that are piled high with local produce that have to be seen to be believed. Most are within a 30 minute drive and are on somewhere close just about every day of the year. In the summer months of July and August things ger even better with evening food markets where you can go and eat in situ, springing up in some amazing settings. Here are some of our favourites and when they are on.

Daily Markets:

Le Bugue - Tuesday

Sarlat - Wednesday and Saturday

Monpazier - Thursday

Le Buisson De Cadouin - Friday

We are particularly pleased to be able to announce that we have renewed our association with Alastair Sawday's Special Places To Stay.

Late October saw Stuart and a number of guests from Denmark take to the skies by microlite from the local airstrip at Belves. For as little as €40 for a twenty minute flight we were able to see this part of the valley from the air. Chateaux, towns and villages, beautiful countryside and of course Maisons La Boissiere.

20% off all published rates this Easter. Hop down to The Dordogne for a short break and enjoy all that the area has to offer. Specail rates valid between April 15th and April 22nd 2025. Please quote Easter Special when making enquiries.
